Tiny Changes

This evening, I felt inspired to work on the design of this website. My initial idea was to design a brand new theme from scratch. But when I opened my computer to begin I immediately felt discouraged: I didn’t really know how to begin and I knew that I was very unlikely to devote the time required to complete such a project.

So I pivoted to making tiny changes:

  1. I found a new base blog theme that I could customize. I chose a theme called Hyde.
  2. I forked that theme and set up this website to use the forked theme. I named it dr-cope-and-mr-hyde because I’m so clever.
  3. I made one very small customization: changing the sidebar text from right-justified to left-justified.

None of these changes were very difficult. But I’m so satisfied with the hour I spent on this tonight. I made some progress and had enough extra time to write this.

This is my intention for building up the design of this website. Tiny changes, made over a long period of time. It’s a great way to do big things.
